Vocal onset and closure in the spectrum

The beginning of a note often reveals whether the sound is too airy, too pressed, or balanced enough to continue.

Breathy starts

If noise appears before pitch locks in, the vocal folds may not be closing efficiently yet.

Pressed starts

If the first moment spikes hard and the throat feels tight, the onset may be too forceful even if the graph looks energetic.

Balanced starts

A balanced onset usually locks pitch quickly and lets harmonics continue without a harsh attack.

Try it in the analyzer. Capture the graph, then compare it with a reference example or your next attempt.
